Local Attractions
Situated near historic Cooperstown, NY and pristine Lake Otsego, our brewery is a bold stroke on a colorful local canvas. This area, steeped in history and lovingly known as the Leatherstocking Region, is home to a number of nationally and internationally recognized attractions. Look below to discover what awaits the curious pathfinder.
The Baseball Hall of Fame
This national treasure is the birthplace and cultural center of America's other greatest pastime (beer drinking being the first, of course). A dazzling array of exhibits and activities await the hardball fanatic, and if you haven't made the July pilgrimage for the Induction, you're missing out on a quintessential American activity.
The Glimmerglass Opera
Located in the beautiful Alice Bush Opera Theatre on the west side of Lake Otsego, Glimmerglass has grown from a beginning season of four productions in the local high school gym to become one of the most respected opera houses in the world. Its Young American Artists Program and its commitment to performances outside the standard repertory keep things vibrant and entertaining. The sliding walls are cool too.
Fenimore Cooper Art Museum
Okay, brewing isn't the only art form. This elegant Georgian building on the southwest side of Lake Otsego houses an amazing collection of Hudson River School paintings and North American Indian art. While you're there, check out the nifty gift shop and the pristine backyard terrace with wonderful views of the lake.
The Farmers' Museum
Explore the past when you visit this living replica of a 19th Century village and farmstead. Take a stroll through seven different gardens (look for the hops!), visit with period artisans, and take a gander at the heritage breed livestock. A full calender of special events, including Sugaring Off, Harvest Festival and The Chamber Music Festival are always a great time.
Howe Caverns
We like to think of this local cave system as the world's largest beer cellar. The constant 52 degree Farenheit temperature is perfect for aging our ales, so every year we place a cache of them deep within these dark, winding caverns. Stop by for one of their daily tours, and don't forget to come to the brewery in October for our Waffles and Puppets festival, so you can get a taste of the recently resurfaced ales. Howe Caverns also offers accommodations, food options, and a fantastic gift shop. www.howecaverns.com
