On Sunday, July 24, 2022, Brewery Ommegang will host the Cooperstown Dominican Latin Fest, a celebration that honors the induction of Boston Red Sox Legend and one of the greatest Latino players of all-time David Ortiz, into Baseball’s Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
“Big Papi” will become just the second Dominican hitter ever inducted into the baseball elite, only after Vladimir Guerrero Sr., and the fourth Dominican player overall joining former pitchers Juan Marichal and Pedro Martinez.
Baseball fans will flock to Cooperstown from the Dominican Republic and around the world to see history in the making at the Induction Ceremony, taking place at the Clark’s Sports Center, where Ortiz will be granted baseball immortality. Widely known as a sports ambassador for the Dominican Republic and beloved in the US, Latin America, Asia, and beyond, Ortiz will attend the Festival at Ommegang that evening to celebrate this historic achievement along with his fans, family, and friends.
The event will feature recording artist stars from the Dominican Republic music scene such as salsa singer Yiyo Sarante and his band, urban performer El Alfa, DJ Adonis and award-winning merengue legends Sergio Vargas and Fernando Villalona.
“As a humble man I want to celebrate the highlight of my career along with my people, so this is a free event, open to all to come and celebrate our impact, the Latino impact in baseball” says Ortiz about this event, where he will be joined by a handful of former MLB players, entertainers, and fans.
Admission to the event at Ommegang will be free of charge but will be first come first served with a cap at about 5,000 people. The event will be broadcasted live to the Dominican Republic by local broadcaster Telemicro, and streamed live throughout the new pan-regional platform VIX. Parking gates will open at 5 pm with doors opening at 6 pm. The event will end at 10 pm.
